December 7 is when the Fox show’s final episode of 2021 will air, after which fans have a wait before Episode 11.
At that point, the show is going on its mid-season break.
Fans who want to know exactly how long they have to wait before they get to see more drama from the Chastain Memorial Hospital will be pleased to know that Fox has already announced when the show will be back in 2022.
The series is confirmed to be part of Fox’s winter line-up, meaning there are only a few weeks to wait between this year’s winter finale and next year’s mid-season premiere.

The Resident Season 5, Episode 11 Release Date
The final episode of 2021 (Season 4, Episode 10, titled “Unknown Origin”), will air on December 7 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. After that episode airs, viewers have exactly eight weeks to wait for the next episode.
The as-yet-untitled winter premiere of The Resident will air on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. On that date, fans can expect to see the show in its usual timeslot—that is, 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.
Fans who want to catch up on all episodes so far in that two-month gap are able to do so online. Every episode of The Resident so far is streaming on Hulu.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Peter Elkoff revealed that The Resident is getting a new character in the second part of Season 5, taking the place left in the cast by Emily VanCamp.
That new character is named Cade, and is being played by former Gotham star Kaley Ronayne.
Cade is a daredevil emergency room doctor who Elkoff says has a large role to play in a major upcoming storyline.
He said she will: “help us do one of those thriller-y arcs that we’ve done in the past,” and hinted she has a mysterious and secret past. “She’s going to attract a lot of attention while trying to keep a low profile,” he said of this.
The synopsis for the mid-season finale reads: “When the first day of Kit’s experimental Flight Go team program sends Conrad out into the field, he builds a new relationship with a fellow doctor along for the ride. Devon works with Trevor for the first time on a patient with a mysterious fever, the cause of which can’t be found. Meanwhile, Bell is hiding a secret from the whole staff and they are starting to become suspicious.”
