ABC has now released a promo for The Good Doctor Season 3, Episode 2 which gives fans of the series a glimpse of the medical drama in store for them next week.
The Good Doctor Season 3, Episode 2 synopsis
The official ABC summary for “Debts” reads: “As Dr. Marcus Andrews [Hill Harper] vows to help a good Samaritan who was injured while stopping a sexual assault, Dr. Audrey Lim [Christina Chang] faces a difficult decision when a young patient’s parents suspect that Dr. Neil Melendez [Nicholas Gonzalez] made a mistake. Meanwhile, Dr. Shaun Murphy fields advice following his disastrous date with Dr. Carly Lever; and Dr. Claire Browne [Antonia Thomas] gets a surprise visit from her mother on an all-new episode of ‘The Good Doctor,’ Monday, September 30th, on ABC.”
What will happen next on The Good Doctor?
The trailer for “Debts” focuses on the first case of the week, overseen by Marcus. The former hospital president was brought back into San Jose St. Bonaventure in the Season 3 premiere by Audrey after being fired in the previous season.
The patient is seen entering the hospital covered in blood, with a wound dressing covering half his face. In the promo, Marcus says of him: “He’s never gonna talk or eat solid food again.”
The only procedure that could help this patient, according to the trailer, is an experimental one which Shaun wants to try out. “It’s not unfixable… I have a solution,” we hear the young doctor say.
However, Shaun’s radical solution could cost the patient his life, with the preview showing the patient haemorrhaging on the operating table, after which Audrey tells Shaun: “Sometimes the hero loses.”
Elsewhere in the episode, fans can look forward to seeing Shaun and Carly’s relationship developing. Though Shaun sees his first date with the pathologist as a disaster, he did get a goodnight kiss and the relationship looks set to develop over the course of the season.
This was teased by Freddie Highmore, who confirmed to TVLine that fans should not expect them to become a couple anytime soon. “We have, like, an entire season to possibly get to that point,” the former Bates Motel actor told the website.
Also next week, the change in power dynamics between Audrey and Neil will continue to play out. After revealing their relationship and ‘breaking up’ to HR in The Good Doctor Season 3 premiere, it seems as if they will continue their relationship in secret, leading to conflict as she has to confront him over a potential mistake.
This was teased in an interview The Good Doctor showrunner David Shore gave to Entertainment Weekly in March 2019, when he said that in order to remain professional “either one of them resigns or they break up. Or, the third choice, which they don’t mention in that scene, is that they go back to lying to everybody. Choices have to be made and certainly, certainly it’s going to affect their relationship. That’s where the fun happens.”
The Good Doctor Season 3, Episode 2 airs on Monday, September 30, at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT.
