“I really miss them so much. We still keep in touch with each other, but I did really miss them during the season,” Tierney told Us Weekly in an interview released Friday.“I mean, I still think the show is good, but I just miss them.”

Season 5 of The Affair will debut on Sunday. The series will pick up in the aftermath of Alison’s shocking death by suicide, which fans discovered was actually a murder in the Season 4 finale.

Although the show is expected to cross two different time periods, the relationship between Tierney and Dominic West’s character Noah Solloway — Alison and Helen’s estranged husband — will take center stage as Noah aims to get back the family he initially left behind following his adulterous romance with Alison in Season 1. His antics will likely cause more than a little tension as Helen will be in the throes of a steamy new relationship with movie star Sasha Mann, played by series newcomer Claes Bang.

Tierney refrained from spilling too many details on the series, but she did tease some resolution surrounding Alison’s demise. Anna Paquin signed on with the show as the grownup version of Joanie, the daughter of Alison and Cole who returns to Montauk and discovers some truths about her family.

When asked if fans could expect to get some answers on the waitresses murder, Tierney told the publication: “I think you can.”

Fans should also expect to gain some clarity on the fate of Jackson’s character as well. “I wasn’t in that episode but, yea, it’s addressed. It’s not a hanging thread,” she said.

Both Wilson and Jackson’s exit from the show was a surprise to viewers, who had followed the ex-couple’s journey since the series first debuted in 2014.

Months before it was revealed Wilson’s character would be killed off the show, the 37-year-old actor advocated for equal pay between men and women and told Radio Times she was sure West “definitely gets more” money than her despite both being lead characters and her earning a Golden Globe award for her performance on the show in 2015.

In her first interview after leaving the series, Wilson said she willingly walked away from The Affair but wasn’t able to share reasons for leaving the show. “I did want to leave, but I’m not allowed to talk about why,” Wilson told CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King in August 2018.

King attempted to determine if discrepancies between Wilson and West had something to do with her departure, however, Wilson was adamant that she had “never complained to Showtime about pay parity.”

Showtime claimed Wilson’s storyline had simply “run its course.”

“We can’t speak for Ruth, but heading into season four everyone agreed the character’s story had run its course,” Showtime said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “Ultimately, it felt like the most powerful creative decision would be to end Alison’s arc at the moment when she had finally achieved self-empowerment. The impact of her loss will be felt as the series concludes next season. We thank the many fans who embraced the character of Alison and especially thank Ruth for her indelible work over the past four seasons.”

The Affair Season 5 premieres on Showtime on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
