In an Instagram post, the actor, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work on Ugly Betty, has revealed she will be back for the show’s last episode. Reposting a tweet from the Superstore Twitter account, she wrote: “Surprise! Amy’s back! So glad I got to play with my @NBCSuperstore family for the big series finale. It was a joyful and bittersweet goodbye that we can’t wait to share with our amazing fans.”

As of March 11, Superstore has just four episodes left to air on NBC, with single instalments set to air on March 11, 18, and two episodes airing back-to-back to make an hourlong series finale on March 25.

Though we know Ferrera will be back at some point in that March 25 double-bill, it is not clear whether she will return for both parts or just the second and final one.

Previously, the actor had hinted she may come back one last time in a NBC video showing her final day filming her exit episode, the 100th instalment of the comedy. “I hope to be back, and to get to see you, before it’s all done,” she said.

As for what fans can expect from Amy’s return to Cloud 9, showrunner Gabe Miller previously hinted that Amy and Jonah (Ben Feldman) will get the happy ending many fans want for them. At the time of Amy’s exit in November 2020, he told TVLine: “We feel like the door is still open the way that we left things…They’re not on the same page about their future right now, but who knows? They still could find their way back to each other.”

The show’s cast and crew filmed those final episodes (which are Season 6, Episode 14 and 15 respectively) back at the end of February. Despite this, the show was able to keep Amy’s return a secret until now. This despite the fact that show star Lauren Ash posted a picture of the entire cast together on that day on her Instagram—a shot that featured Ferrera, leading many to assume it was an old photo.

The Twitter post announcing Ferrera’s return also included the first image from the finale, which show Amy donning her Cloud 9 uniform for one last time.

Superstore Season 6 continues Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on NBC. All episodes so far are streaming on Hulu and Peacock.
