“Don’t do it. It’s doomed,” Joe Pytka said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “Michael Jordan was the biggest star on the planet.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pytka thinks James’ star has already been surpassed by Stephen Curry, and the years between now and the film’s release will only reduce James’ impact on the film.
“When we did Space Jam, there was a perfect storm of players and ex-players available: Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing,” Pytka said. “They all had a persona that complemented the film. There are none around like that now.”
It’s unknown what direction the new film will take and what NBA stars will take part, but with 20 years already between now and the original, the anticipation of a “Space Jam” sequel will certainly be enough to make it a box office hit in terms of dollars. Whether the movie is actually any good is another (likely less important) question.
