According to the NFL Advisory Committee, Calhoun was expected to be a first-day draft pick.

“I love being a part of this group, and I love playing under Coach D (Mark Dantonio),’’ Calhoun said at the Breslin Center. “The decision boiled down to who I have above me, teaching me and guiding me.”

Calhoun has 15.5 sacks, 26.5 tackles for loss, 26 quarterback hurries, and three forced fumbles in his last two seasons. He is a two-time, first-team All-Big Ten pick and was Defensive Lineman of the Year in the Big Ten in 2013.

The Spartans finished their 11-2 season with a 42-41 win over Baylor in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day. Their only losses were to national title game contenders Oregon and Ohio State.
