With the show proving popular, Queen Sono Season 2 could be coming very soon. Netflix hasn’t revealed whether it will commission another edition of the show—but it seems likely.

Netflix first unveiled its plans for Africa in a April 2018 conference, where the company’s vice president of international originals Erik Barmack told the audience the streamer is: “In the process of looking at opportunities in Africa. It’s definitely the case that we’ll commission some series there.”

More recently, referring to Queen Sono, a Netflix representative told DW, “This is exactly what we’re going for..African thrillers, entertaining and smart political dramas.”

Queen Sono is the first of these series to air, and show is likely to be a flagship for Netflix’s African content, similar to how the TV series Sacred Games (which got a second season) was a flagship for Netflix’s output in India.

However, Netflix is unlikely to announce a second season of Queen Sono until a month after its premiere, as the streaming service likes to consider at least four weeks worth of streaming data before making a decision about their shows’ future. If they do order Season 2, however, viewers can expect it in February or March 2021.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the ending of Queen Sono on Netflix

If Queen Sono Season 2 does get recommissioned, the current season does set up a deeper conspiracy for future episodes. In the finale of Season 1, Queen learns that her mother was murdered due to a SOG plot, after the government-baked spy agency considered her as irrelevant following the election of Nelson Mandela in 1994.

However, the person who tells Queen this, her boss Dr. Sidwell Isaacs (Sechaba Morojele), had nothing to do with the plot, which means that Queen still has to find the shadowy figure behind the assassination of her mother in Season 2.

Queen Sono is streaming now on Netflix.
