There’s a lot shown in the new Sword and Shield trailer. Some are things veteran Pokémon players know, while others are brand-new.Before we dive in, check out the new video published by The Pokémon Company.
CHANGING NATURES
The most substantial new edition to the Pokémon franchise that’s introduced in Sword and Shield is the ability to change the effects of a Pokémon’s Nature.
A Pokémon’s Nature can determine which stat it excels at and which it doesn’t. Natures in Pokémon battles are very important, as they can give your partner an edge over others who prioritize a different Nature.
In Sword and Shield, there are Nature Mints that can change the effects of a Pokémon’s Nature without truly changing it. As the trailer shows, a Pikachu was given the Modest Mint, switching which stats increased, in this case, Special Attack, and decreased - Attack.
INCREASING EFFORT VALUES
A Pokémon’s Effort Values (EVs) can also increase certain stats. In past Pokémon games, trainers could increase a Pokémon’s EVs in a variety of ways. In the new Sword and Shield trailer, trainers use various supplements to increase base stats.
These supplements were also found in past games, but with the Exp Share being always-on, using this method may be the easiest way to max out your Pokémon’s stats. Until now, there has been a limit on how many special supplements could be used on a Pokémon. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, trainers will be able to max out a Pokémon’s base points using only these supplements if they’d like to.
It’s unclear if this is the only method of EV training, but we’ll update this article if we learn more.
LEVELING UP FASTER
Leveling up Pokémon in Sword and Shield is easier than ever thanks to Exp candy. SImilar to Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, trainers can feed candy to their Pokémon to increase their levels faster.
FINDING GIGANTAMAX POKEMON
Gigantamax Pokémon can only be obtained through Max Raid Battles. While every Pokémon can Dynamax, only special Pokémon can go through the process of Gigantamaxing.
Finding one is all up to chance. As you enter a Max Raid Battle, you’ll know you’ve found a Gigantamax Pokémon if that’s the form it takes.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will release November 15 for Nintendo Switch.
