Leading to the release of Sword and Shield, certain Galarian forms were revealed while GameFreak and The Pokémon Company left others to be discovered in-game.
With Sword and Shield now available, here’s everything you need to know about the new Galarian forms, including how to evolve them and which version they are in.
POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD GALARIAN FORMS
Galarian Zigzagoon
Zigzagoon received some much-needed love in Gen 8, giving the Normal-type Racoon Pokémon, and its evolution Linoone, the Dark typing. More importantly, Galarian Linoone can evolve into the new regional evolution, Obstagoon.
Here’s the levels the Galarian Zigzagoon line needs to evolve.
Zigzagoon -> Lv 20 -> Linoone -> Lv 35 (at night) -> Obstagoon
Galarian Weezing
Not all Pokémon received Galarian forms throughout its line. Koffing remains in its Kantonian form in the Galar region, but evolves into the first Fairy and Poison-type Pokémon, Galarian Weezing.
Here’s the level Koffing evolves into Galarian Weezing.
Koffing -> Lv 35 -> Weezing
Galarian Ponyta
One of the coolest new Galarian forms is Ponyta. What was thought to be a Fairy-type, is actually a Psychic-type, giving it some more firepower. It should be known that this line can only be found in Shield version, so those looking for the “unique horn” Pokémon will want to pick up that game.
Galarian Ponyta evolves into Galarian Rapidash, who gains the Fairy typing.
Here’s the level Galarian Pontya evolves into Rapidash:
Ponyta -> Lv 38 -> Rapidash
Galarian Farfetch’d
Sirfectch’d, the evolved form of the Gen 1 duck Pokémon, was the talk of the Pokémon world when it was revealed. However, it wasn’t known if Farfetch’d would remain the same or have a Galarian form. With the release of Sword and Shield, we can confirm that Galarian Farfetch’d is a pure Fighting-type.
Farfetch’d can only be caught in Pokémon Sword, so, if this is the Galarian Pokémon you’re seeking, you’ll want to pick the game up.
Farfetch’d -> Get three Critical Hits in one Battle -> Sirfetch’d
Galarian Mr. Mime
Mr. Mime gets a Galarian form, making it a bit more like Jynx than it’s original Kantonian form.
The Mr. Mime of this region go from Psychic and Fairy to Psychic and Ice-type. Like Farfetch’d and Linoone, Mr. Mime gets a regional evolution named Mr. Rime. Here’s the level you need to obtain a Mr. Rime.
Mr. Mime -> Lv 42 -> Mr. Rime
Galaraian Yamask
Yamask is one of the most unique Ghost-type Pokémon, and it gets a Galarian form. The Gen 5 Pokémon goes from a pure Ghost-type Pokémon to a Ghost and Ground-type.
It also gets a new evolution. Yamask doesn’t evolve into a Galarian Cofragrigus, but into something brand new called Runerigus. It’s method of evolution is different and takes some work.
Yamask -> Have 49+ damage while walking under stone sculpture in Dusty Bowl (Wild Area) -> Runerigus
Galarian Corsola
Corsola gets a Galarian form, and the Water and Rock-type Pokémon becomes a pure Ghost-type. Corsola also receives a regional evolution called Cursola, which keeps its pure Ghost typing.
It needs to be noted that this Galarian form is only found in Pokémon Shield.
Here’s when Galarian Corsola evolves into Cursola:
Corsola -> Lv 38 -> Cursola (Shield)
Galarian Darumaka
If Galarian Corsola is in Shield, the Sword version exclusive is Galarian Darumaka.
Darumaka changes from a Fire-type to a pure Ice-type. Darmanitan has a unique ability called Zen Mode, which its Galarian form can have. If Galarian Darmanitan has Zen Mode, it transforms into an Ice and Fire-type Pokémon.
Here’s how to evolve Galarian Darumaka into Darmanitan.
Darumaka -> Ice Stone -> Darmanitan (Sword)
Galarian Meowth
Meowth received an Alolan form in Sun and Moon, and now the popular cat Pokémon gets another form with Gen 8.
Galarian Meowth becomes a pure Steel-type, but, instead of evolving into a Persian, it becomes Perrserker, another pure Steel-type Pokémon that’s more aggressive than the elegant Persian.
Here’s when Galarian Meowth evolves into Perrserker:
Meowth -> Lv 28 -> Perrserker
Galarian Stunfisk
Stunfisk, the Electric and Ground-type Pokémon from Gen 4, gets a Galarian form in Sword and Shield.
Its new form becomes a Dark and Steel-type Pokémon that does not have an evolution, but it’s new typing gives it new life.
