However, unlike normal Max Raids, trainers won’t be able to catch this powerful Mythical Pokémon. Instead, trainers will be tasked with defeating Zeraora as many times as possible. This is similar to the Mewtwo Max Raid battles that came to the Galar region, back in February.
So what will trainers receive for fighting Zeraora in Max Raids? The chance to get a free Shiny Zeraora. Here are all the details for the upcoming Zeraora Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield:
POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD ZERAORA RAID SCHEDULE
Zeraora Raid Battles will begin appearing in the Sword and Shield Wild Area beginning Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. EDT, and ending Sunday, June 28, at 7:59 p.m. EDT.
HOW TO ACCESS ZERAORA RAIDS
As with other Max Raid Battles, trainers simply have to travel into the Wild Area and find a den with a red light shining from it. Trainers will see the silhouette of a Pokémon that is hiding in that den. If it’s the silhouette of Zeraora, enter and get ready for a tough battle.
The Pokémon Company confirmed that Zeraora can appear in three-, four- or five-star Raids. Zeraora will become more difficult the more stars that Max Raid Battle is. However, five-star Zeraora raids have a chance for trainers to encounter the Electric-type Pokémon in its shiny form.
Players can also gain access to more Raids through the Sword and Shield online features. To join other people’s Raid Battle, players must connect to the internet. You can learn more about that process in our Sword and Shield online guide.
SHINY ZERAORA DISTRIBUTION
While trainers won’t be able to catch these Zeraora, if one million trainers defeat Zeraora during this event window, a special Shiny Zeraora will be distributed via Pokémon Home.
Also, for every 100,000 trainers who defeat a Zeraora, an Armorite Ore will be distributed (max 10) along with the Shiny Zeraora. Armorite Ore are used to teach Pokémon moves using the new Move Tutor feature in the Isle of Armor DLC.
The Shiny Zeraora and Armorite Ore will be available to claim via the Mystery Gifts menu in the mobile device version of Pokémon Home from Monday, June 29, at 8 p.m. EDT until Monday, July 6, at 7:59 p.m. EDT.
In order to claim these gifts, the following condition must be met:
At least one million Trainers across Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield defeat Zeraora in Max Raid Battles. You deposit a Pokémon in Pokémon Home or move a Pokémon to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield from Pokémon Home between Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a. m. EDT and Monday, July 6, at 7:59 p. m. EDT.
