The Pokémon Company revealed that the Zigzagoon line and Weezing will have Galarian forms. Similar to the Alolan forms of Sun and Moon, older generation Pokémon receive new types and in the case of Linoone, could receive a new evolution.
Galarian forms are brought on by a Pokémon’s adaptation to the Galar region. The official Sword and Shield site confirms that there will be more Galarian forms, and evolutions, on the way so we thought of five Pokémon we would like to see receive a new form.
This list won’t include Pokémon that may have been leaked already, and won’t have Pokémon that already have a Mega Evolution. This list does include one Pokémon from Generation one to five as we feel that Gen 6 and Gen 7 are too recent to see Pokémon get an update.
Without further ado, here are the five Pokémon we want to see receive Galarian forms in Sword and Shield.
TAUROS
Tauros has always been a favorite of ours and while it had a lot of battle potential in earlier generations, the pure Normal-type Pokémon has been outclassed by others since.
Adding a the Ground typing could give Tauros some added firepower, giving it STAB Earthquake and more. It could also receive the Sand Rush or Sand Force to make it a powerhouse in a Sandstorm.
There’s a large desert area in the middle of Galar, and maybe Galarian Tauros had to adapt to its climate.
is
A regional bird that could use some love is Noctowl. The Normal and Flying-type Pokémon is arguably the weakest of the regional birds, which is a shame because it has a nice array of attacks.
Giving Noctowl a Galarian form would breath new life into this Pokémon especially if Game Freak leans into its Psychic abilities. Noctowl has five attacking Psychic-type attacks all from level up, but can’t get the benefits of same type attack bonus.
Make Noctowl a Psychic/Flying-type Pokémon to give it that STAB bonus on moves like Psychic and Dream Eater to make it more useful.
KECLEON
One of the forgotten Pokémon of the Hoenn region, Kecleon is a cool Normal-type with some ok stats and a neat gimmick of being able to hide using camouflage. It’s hard to determine what type a Galarian Kecleon would be, but we could see it use mythical powers to become invisible as a pure Fairy-type. We could also see it become a pure Ghost or Dark-type Pokémon as it hides in the shadows.
There’s a lot of possibilities for a Galarian Kecleon and even more if Game Freak wants to give it an evolution.
LUMINEON
We always thought Lumineon’s design is great although it’s lack of power and pure Water typing makes it a forgettable Pokémon. It’s Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Pokedex entry says that it and Lanturn fight over food on the ocean floor. But what if a Galarian Lumineon moves to a new habitat to get away from the Water and Electric-type?
Lanturn is confirmed to be in Sword and Shield so Lumineon could go to an area where it’s much colder. It adapts and becomes a dual Water and Ice-type Pokémon. While the franchise has quite a few of those already, the Galar region doesn’t have a Water and Ice-type confirmed for Sword and Shield aside from Lapras.
BISHARP
One of the coolest Pokémon designs, Bisharp brings a cold fighting style. It’s known for fighting dirty, which is why it holds the Dark typing, but if the Galar region taught Bisharp how to fight honorable?
This could lead to Bisharp changing its typing to become a Fighting and Steel-type Pokémon. This Type combination is only held by Cobalion, one of the Swordsmen of the Unova region so a Galarian Bisharp could fill that niche.
Pokémon Sword and Shield release November 15 for Nintendo Switch.
