Of course, those two types are normally associated with Team Rocket, but also with Halloween, which the Pokémon Go team is getting trainers ready for. Mega Gengar will be making its Pokémon Go debut at the end of the month, and a special Halloween Event will bring more spooky goodness to the mobile game. But until then, players can complete certain tasks all month long to get encounters with special Pokémon.
POKEMON GO OCTOBER FIELD RESEARCH TASKS
Early October has seen the Fashion Week event begin with its own special research tasks, and there will be others throughout the month, but the standard tasks will stay the same until the first of November.
Some field research tasks remain the same from past months, like the Raid missions that reward fossil Pokémon. Most, though, have changed to feature Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon.

WHICH POKEMON TO FOCUS ON
With the inclusion of Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of Pokémon that trainers will want to try and catch during October.
Mega Gengar will be debuting in Pokémon Go at the end of the month and its pre-evolutions, Gastly and Haunter, are available as reward encounters in October. By completing the “Make 3 Great Throws” reward, trainers will have a 33 percent chance at encountering a Gastly. Haunter is also available by completing the “Evolve a Pokémon” task.
Try and complete as many of these tasks to get a Gastly with high IVs and to collect as much candy to power up your Gengar of choice.
Two other Ghost-type Pokémon receive Mega Evolutions, but it’s yet unknown when they’ll make their Pokémon Go debuts. Sableye and Banette will receive Mega Evolutions in the popular mobile game in the future, but trainers can use this month to find the Pokémon they’ll eventually want to Mega Evolve.
Complete the “Defeat 2 Team Go Rocket Grunts” task to get Sableye and complete the “Send 3 Gifts to Friends” task to get Shuppet during the month of October.
