There will be three events throughout the month of September in Pokémon Go that involve Mega Evolutions. Trainers will be tasked with certain goals to unlock new Mega Pokémon in the popular mobile game.

First, we have a Mega Raid event that will focus on battling Mega Pokémon and you’ll need to complete a lot of them if you want to obtain everything there is to offer during this week-long event.

POKEMON GO MEGA RAID EVENT START TIME

The Pokémon Go Mega Raid event begins Tuesday, September 1 at 8 a.m. local time and ends Monday, September 7 at 10 p.m. local time.

POKEMON GO MEGA RAID EVENT RESEARCH TASKS

Until the event has gone live, we won’t know the exact details of the research tasks, but Niantic has confirmed that completing these tasks will earn trainers Mega Energy for the Kanto Starters.

That means more and easier Mega Energy for Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur.

With the launch of the Mega Raid event, we now know what the research tasks are. Here’s the list of tasks to complete with their rewards:

Battle Another Trainer - Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise Mega Energy (x5)Win 3 Raids - AerodactylWin 5 Raids - ChanseyWin a Mega Raid - CranidosWin a Raid - Lotad

MEGA PIDGEOT

The grand prize of this first Mega Evolution event in Pokémon Go is unlocking Mega Pidgeot.

If trainers across the world complete two million Mega Raids, collectively, then Mega Pidgeot will begin appearing in Mega Raids from now on. This will make Pidgeot the fifth Pokémon to be added in this manner after Mega Blastoise, Venusaur, and Charizard X and Y.

Pidgeot doesn’t change its typing when it Mega Evolves, but will likely become the most powerful Flying-type Pokémon in the game when it is released.

To help trainers, the attack bonus for battling with friends in Mega Raids will increase during the event.

IN-GAME BONUSES

To help trainers complete the global challenge, Pokémon Go is selling three Remote Raid Passes to let players compete in Raids of any kind–including Mega Raids–from the comfort of their own home.

For one PokeCoin, you can buy three Remote Raid Passes in the in-game store. However, if you have three Remote Raid Passes already, you won’t be able to obtain these items as the maximum number of Remote Raid Passes you can carry is five.

The amount of Mega Raids in the overworld will increase as well as spawns of specific Pokémon.

Niantic confirms the following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the overworld: Abra, Magnemite, Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Tangela, Electabuzz, Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Murkrow, Treecko, Torchic, Lotad and Roselia.

Many of these Pokémon like Tangela and Rhyhorn will help take down some of these Mega Pokémon. However, trainers will want to try and catch as many Abra, Treecko and Torchic as they can. These three Pokémon will eventually have their Mega Evolutions unlocked in the game, so having a powerful one with great individual values (IVs) will prove useful when they do.
