There were five Mega Evolutions added to Pokémon Go last week, with all but one (Mega Beedrill) being obtainable via defeating Mega Raids and earning Mega Energy. Mega Raids are their own battles that sit alongside one, two and five-star Raids. Trainers will face off against powerful Mega-Evolved Pokémon like Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise to earn enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve their own Pokémon.

Mega Venusaur, Charizard (X and Y) and Blastoise are all very powerful and will force trainers to team up with friends in cooperative battles to take them down. Each Pokémon in these Mega Raids have their own strengths and weaknesses, but there are plenty of options in Pokémon Go to defeat them.

MEGA VENUSAUR COUNTERS

Mega Venusaur is a Grass and Poison-type Pokémon, making it weak to Fire, Ice, Psychic and Flying-type attacks.

Trainers’ best bet is to bring powerful Fire and Psychic-type Pokémon into battle against this bulky flower-frog. There are plenty of Legendary Pokémon that fit the bill here and can help you achieve victory.

Players may also want to invest in Mega Charizard Y or X for this battle, but it’s not completely necessary. Here are some examples of Pokémon that can help you in battle against Mega Venusaur:

Mega Charizard Y with Fire Spin and Blast BurnMega Charizard X with Fire Spin and Blast BurnMewtwo with Psycho Cut and PsystrikeReshiram with Fire Fang and OverheatMoltres with Fire Spin and Overheat/Sky AttackLatio with Zen Headbutt and PsychicDarmanitan with Fire Fang and OverheatMetagross with Zen Headbutt and Psychic

MEGA CHARIZARD X AND Y COUNTERS

We’ll start with Mega Charizard X. This version of Charizard transforms into a Fire and Dragon-type Pokémon, making it weak to Dragon, Rock and Ground.

There are so many powerful Dragon types in Pokémon Go that trainers should bring as many as they can into battles against Mega Charizard X. While this Pokémon has Dragon-type attacks that can hurt your Dragons, their damage output far outweighs the damage they’ll take.

Unfortunately, none of the Megas currently in Pokémon Go can help with Mega Charizard X, so it’s not worth bringing one of them into battle unless you plan to bring your own Mega Charizard X. But even then, there won’t be an optimal move set until Charizard gains access to Dragon Breath in October’s Community Day.

Here are some examples of Pokémon, and their best attacks, that can help players face Mega Charizard X:

Rayquaza with Dragon Tail and OutrageSalamence with Dragon Tail and OutrageRampardos with Smackdown and Rock SlidePalkia with Dragon Tail and Draco MeteorZekrom with Dragon Breath and OutrageGarchomp with Dragon Tail and OutrageHaxorus with Dragon Tail and Dragon ClawReshiram with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor

Mega Charizard Y retains the Fire and Flying typing from its non-Mega Evolved form, which makes it weak to Water, Electric and Rock-type attacks. It resists Bug, Grass, Fairy, Steel and Fighting-type attacks.

Rock-type attacks are your best option against Mega Charizard Y, and there are plenty of powerful and speedy attackers that fit the bill. Here are some examples:

Mega Blastoise with Water Gun and Hydro CannonRampardos with Smackdown and Rock SlideRhyperior with Smackdown and Rock WreckerTyranitar with Smackdown and Stone EdgeTerrakion with Smackdown and Rock SlideGigalith with Smackdown and Rock SlideAerodactyl with Rock Throw and Rock SlideOmastar with Rock Throw and Rock Slide

MEGA BLASTOISE COUNTERS

Mega Blastoise keeps the same Water typing as the original, but packs plenty of punch. It’s only weak to Grass and Electric-type attacks.

Like with Mega Charizard Y and Venusaur, bringing in your own Mega Evolution will help take this big turtle down. There are also plenty of powerful Electric and Grass-type attackers in Pokémon Go to choose from.

Try using these Pokémon the next time you go up against Mega Blastoise:
