Kyurem is the first Ice and Dragon-type Pokémon, bringing with it powerful attacks and a unique typing for PVP and PVE battles. With the arrival of Kyurem, Pokémon Go players can expect the rest of the Raids in the overworld to change to accommodate Pokémon that can help trainers defeat this Legendary Pokémon.

Read on for a guide on how to defeat Kyurem easily in Pokémon Go and an update on which Pokémon are appearing in Raids.

POKEMON GO KYUREM COUNTERS

Being an Ice and Dragon-type Pokémon, Kyurem has a number of weaknesses that trainers can exploit.

Kyurem is weak to Steel, Fairy, Dragon, Fighting and Rock-type attacks. Its typing also makes it resistant to Electric, Water and Grass-type moves, so trainers should avoid Pokémon that use those.

The Legendary Pokémon will use the fast attacks Dragon Breath and Steel Wing, while its charged attacks include Dragon Claw, Blizzard or Draco Meteor.

In Pokémon Go, there are plenty of powerful Fighting, Rock and Steel-type options to bring into battles against Kyurem when it appears on July 7. Here’s a list of Pokémon with the attacks it should learn to maximize their damage output:

Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor MashLucario with Counter/Bullet Punch and Aura SphereConkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic PunchDialga with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor/Iron HeadRhyperior with Smack Down and Rock WreckerTerrakion with Smack Down and Rock Slide.

Some trainers may not have the Legendary Pokémon Dialga or Terrakion, so bringing some more common Pokémon like Tyranitar, with two Rock-type attacks, or Gardevoir, with two Fairy-type attacks, can help. However, you’ll need to be careful and monitor your Pokémon’s health as both Gardevoir and Tyranitar are weak to Kyurem’s Steel Wing.

POKEMON GO RAID UPDATE

Starting July 7, Kyurem will appear in five-star raids. And to help trainers maximize the amount of encounters they have with the Legendary Pokémon, a special Raid Hour event will happen every Wednesday at 6 p.m. local time, as long as the Ice and Dragon-type Pokémon is in Raids.

Currently, the Raids in Pokémon Go are populated with Pokémon for the Fourth Anniversary event. The list of Raid Bosses reflects that and we’ll update this section if new Pokémon replace them.
