Original Story
With the start of Season 4 of the Pokémon Go Battle League comes the Flying Cup, a specialized and brand new way to battle players around the world.
The Flying Cup in Pokémon Go will limit the types of Pokémon that trainers can take into battle. This limited-time battle league will test the battling prowess of trainers around the world and give in-game incentives along the way.
If you’re looking for a new way to battle in Pokémon Go during Season 4 of the Go Battle League, we suggest you try your hands (wings?) at the Flying Cup this week.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP START TIME
The Flying Cup in Pokémon Go has been postponed. We will update this section when a new date is announced.
It was originally slated to start Thursday, September 24, from 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. local time.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP EXCLUSIVE MOVE
Niantic and the Pokémon Go team are going to incentivize trainers playing the Flying Cup by unlocking an exclusive move for Pidgeot, the Normal and Flying-type from the Kanto region.
Trainers who evolve Pidgeotto (the evolved form of Pidgey) during the event will get a Pidgeot that learns the Fast attack Gust. This special Flying-type attack will give Pidgeot its quickest attack to date.
Pair Gust with Mega Pidgeot, and your Flying-type will decimate Raids and Team Go Rocket.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP
In the Flying Cup format, only Flying-type Pokémon will be allowed (obviously), but the CP limit for Pokémon will be 1,500, which is similar to the Great Ball League.
The number of battles that trainers can participate in will be increased from five to 20 sets. This allows trainers to battle up to 100 times in this format. Along the way, trainers will earn twice the Stardust for winning battles, completing sets of battles and ranking up in the Go Battle League during the event window.
As for which Pokémon to use in the Flying Cup, there are plenty of options, but there’s some information you should keep in mind.
Flying-type Pokémon are weak to Electric, Ice and Rock-type attacks, so bringing in Pokémon that know those moves will be beneficial since your opponent’s team will only have Flying types.
There are some great options to take into battle, but we recommend taking these Pokémon into battle:
Emolga with Thunder Shock and Discharge/ThunderboltAerodactyl with Rock Throw and Ancient Power/Rock SlideArticuno with Frost Breath and Icy Wind/Ancient PowerSkarmory with Steel Wing and Brave Bird/Sky AttackMantine with Bubble and Bubble Beam/Ice BeamTogekiss with Charm and Ancient Power/Air SlashGyarados with Dragon Breath and Aqua Tail/CrunchDragonite with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw/OutrageAltaria with Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse/Sky Attack
