This new battle format will give trainers a fun and unique way to fight in Pokémon Go. As the name suggests, only Flying-type Pokémon will be eligible to battle for a limited time.
And while many of the same Flying-type Pokémon we highlighted back in September will still be viable for the rescheduled Flying Cup, some new options have come into play.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP START TIME
The Flying Cup in Pokémon Go will begin Thursday, November 5, at 6 p.m. local time and ends Friday, November 6, at 12 a.m. local time.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP EXCLUSIVE MOVE
The only thing changed when the Flying Cup was rescheduled was the timing, which means the exclusive move for Pidgeot will still be available for those who participate in this special event.
Trainers who evolve Pidgeotto (the evolved form of Pidgey) during the event will get a Pidgeot that learns the fast attack Gust. This special Flying-type attack will give Pidgeot its best Flying-type fast attack option.
POKEMON GO FLYING CUP OPTIONS
In the Flying Cup format, only Flying-type Pokémon will be allowed, with the CP limit for Pokémon set to 1,500, which is similar to the Great Ball League.
The number of battles that trainers can participate in will be increased from five to 20 sets. This allows trainers to battle up to 100 times in this format. Along the way, trainers will earn twice the Stardust for winning battles, completing sets of battles and ranking up in the Go Battle League during the event window.
Viable options for the Flying Cup are plentiful, but trainers who want to excel in this battle format will need to remember which attacks are super effective against Flying types.
Flying-type Pokémon are weak to Electric, Ice and Rock-type attacks, so bringing in Pokémon that know those moves will be beneficial, since your opponent’s team will only have Flying types.
There are some great options to take into battle, especially Mandibuzz, who was introduced in Strange Eggs in October. The Dark and Flying-type Pokémon was a great option for the recent Halloween Cup and is now an option trainers will want to consider.
Although its typing and pool of attack options isn’t necessarily the best for this format, its high defense and HP could make it see use on Thursday.
We recommend taking these Pokémon into battle:
Emolga with Thunder Shock and Discharge/ThunderboltAerodactyl with Rock Throw and Ancient Power/Rock SlideArticuno with Frost Breath and Icy Wind/Ancient PowerSkarmory with Steel Wing and Brave Bird/Sky AttackMantine with Bubble and Bubble Beam/Ice BeamTogekiss with Charm and Ancient Power/Air SlashGyarados with Dragon Breath and Aqua Tail/CrunchDragonite with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw/OutrageAltaria with Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse/Sky AttackMandibuzz with Air Slash and Foul Play/Aerial Ace
