More flashbacks
Though Season 3 ended with a two-year time-jump, the creators have said that Season 4 will fill in this time and reveal what happened to break up the Core Four. Speaking to HollywoodLife, for example, co-creator Jeremy Haft said: " If we [get] to season 4, we definitely would have some flashbacks to help fill in what happened to the Core Four. With Jasmine, the Core Five. And with Spooky, the Core Six."
Co-creator Eddie Gonzalez added in an AV Club piece, “Hopefully a majority of our audience will say, ‘No way! How the hell did they get to that point?’ That’s the question to answer if there’s a season four: I want to know what happened in those two years that broke these people apart.”
However, Gonzalez added in the HollywoodLife article that there’s unlikely to be one big thing that broke up the friendship group. He said; “I don’t think there is an acute thing, some incident that broke everybody up…multiple things that break up people — be it time, be it some specific incident, or just the idea of growing up.”
Lil’ Ricky’s identity revealed
Some fans of On My Block were disappointed when Season 3 did not reveal the identity of Lil’ Ricky despite the whole series of episodes seeming to be building up to that point. However, Gonzalez hinted that Season 4 would be where the mystery paid off.
He said: “I know that there are some people who are probably unsatisfied that we didn’t solve it, but I think that at the end of the day, we’re looking at the big picture. If we’re fortunate enough to have a Season 4, I think that people will be satisfied at some point.”
A darker plot for Cesar
On My Block already saw a lot of changes for Cesar (Diego Tinoco), who has joined the Santos and in the time jump has a tattoo of a broken heart.
In Season 4, exactly why he has that tattoo will be revealed according to an interview with Lauren Iungerich in AV Club where she said, “When I was shooting it, I was like, ‘Ooh, let’s pan down and make sure we get that tattoo.’ That would leave a little bit of a cliffhanger: We’re seeing he’s hardened, he’s a leader of the Santos, and then on top of it, holy s***, why is his heart broken?”
Gonzalez added to HollywoodLife: “I think you probably would see a little bit of a darker shade to Cesar given what he’s seen.”
Cesar actor Diego Tinoco, meanwhile, told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m excited for Cesar to explore just the darker side of everything, because he’s been through so much traumatic experiences and for him to turn at the end, it really shows what life has done to him. But in the end, I want him to end up with the lovely Monse.”
Cuchillos alive?
Though this may have only been a joke, Haft responded to a question about whether Cuchillos (Ada Luz Ola) really died in Season 3 by saying, “I thought she was dead, but now my brain is moving really, really fast for another idea for season 4 that we hadn’t thought of.”
On My Block Seasons 1 to 3 are streaming now on Netflix.
