The video has been viewed more than 100,000 times on Twitter since being posted on Monday by OKCFox reporter Wayne Stafford.

“Watch: We have new body camera footage from the incident between Gov Stitt’s son and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office,” he wrote as a caption.

While speaking to the officers, Stitt’s 20-year-old son John, who goes by the name Drew, told them his father was the governor.

In the video he can be heard saying: “To be honest, my dad’s the governor,” to which an officer replies that she doesn’t care.

The incident occurred on Halloween night and on the early morning of November 1, according to the date on the body cam video.

The same officer can later be heard describing the situation after calling John Stitt’s parents.

She said: “Governor’s Stitt’s son is drunk at Gauthrie Haunts and somebody got into his unlocked truck and dragged out a pelican case full of firearms.

“I asked Governor Stitt and his wife to come and retrieve the firearms because he is 20 year’s old and is intoxicated and he was like ‘I will just send a trooper.’”

In a longer clipped video of the encounter, seen by OKCFox, the deputy who was speaking said she had never experienced anything like this before.

“I’m pretty upset right now, the deputy said.

“[John] was trying to say he wasn’t intoxicated and that he wasn’t doing anything.

“I could tell by his pupils he is really intoxicated. You can smell him, he’s slurring his words, he’s got a car full of people and obviously had a trunk full of guns too.”

According to the OKFCFox report, Drew Stitt wasn’t arrested, but authorities have sent an affidavit to the district attorney’s office. The DA office offered him a “deferred prosecution agreement.”

Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux has since spoken about the incident and defended the action of his deputies.

When asked by a Fox 25 reporter why he or the individuals who were in the car with him weren’t arrested and haven’t faced charges, he said: " Well the thing that people are not understanding is that an affidavit for charges was submitted to the district attorney’s office.

“So it is in their hands now as to whether they want to file the charge or not.”

The Fox 25 reporter speaking with Devereaux also asked why none of the individuals were arrested on the night for things including minor possession, public intoxication and possession of firearms while intoxicated.

Devereaux replied: “Public intoxication has to come with a disturbance, you can’t just arrest on public intoxication anymore.

“So there has to be another reason for him to be arrested for public intoxication.”

Newsweek has contacted the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
