The finale, airing on Monday, March 9, focuses on the lead-up to the trial of Jerry Jacobson. According to its preview trailer, streaming now on the HBO website, it will also answer the question that has been hanging over the whole season: Exactly how did “Uncle Jerry” manage to steal all those game pieces and get away with it for so long?
The promo reveals, however, that the finale of McMillions will also follow-up on the end of Episode 5 and its discussion of who the informant is. At the end of the last episode, Frank Colombo (the brother of Jerry Colombo, one of the participants in the scam) said he knew who the informant was but would not yet say due to worrying about his safety.
Episode 6, however, will also have to follow on from the revelation from Jerry Colombo’s widow Robin at the end of the last episode that it was Frank who acted as the FBI informant.
Though the McMillions Episode 6 promo does not explicitly spell out that this is the case, one scene does seem to imply that Frank Colombo will confess to being the informant. After the filmmaker asks him who the informant is in the preview, we hear him say: “Time to tell the truth.”
Viewers, however, should be ready for a big surprise as to the identity of the informant. FBI Agent Doug Mathews says in the trailer, “nobody expected that.”
It also seems as if the informant was key to the FBI finding out the answer to the HBO show’s other big question. We hear Mathews say: “Without the informant, this case never would have happened.”
The official HBO synopsis for Episode 6 of McMillions, meanwhile, reads: “Series finale. The government finally brings its case to court and key questions about Jerome ‘Jerry’ Jacobson’s operation and the identity of the FBI informant are answered.”
TVGuide has a longer summary for the finale that gives some hints about the answers to some of the big questions, as well as revealing that the last episode will bring the story of the scam right up to date.
That logline reads: “As the trial nears, many of the defendants take plea deals and cooperate with the government, but George Chandler and others decide to fight to prove their innocence.
“When a previously uncooperative Jerome ‘Jerry’ Jacobson takes the stand, the remaining details of how he pulled off his scheme are disclosed. Almost 20 years later, new information is revealed, and those involved reflect on what they learned, their regrets and the effects that one man’s greed had on so many people.”
McMillions Episode 6 airs Monday, March 9 at 10.10 p.m. ET on HBO.
