The FX show has had a dramatic season, with major characters like Richard Cabral’s Coco losing their lives to the gang war. With big cast members losing their lives, could this be a sign that the show is coming towards its end?

The Sons of Anarchy spin-off, however, has had a fairly successful season, which might give viewers hope that Mayans MC will be renewed for Season 5.

Read on for everything we know about the future of the FX show.

Will There Be Another Season of Mayans MC?

At time of writing, FX has not revealed the future of the show.

Though this might be a concern for fans, the network has traditionally been fairly slow at renewing Mayans MC.

The announcement that the show had been renewed for Season 4, for example, came on May 3, 2021, the day before the penultimate episode of that season aired. Season 3, meanwhile, was renewed on November 4, 2019, the day before that season’s finale aired.

This does mean that FX has waited longer than usual to renew the show in 2022, but that is not necessarily a cause for concern. Though the show began its current season with its ratings down, its more recent episodes have been rising to meet the ratings of the previous season.

The show also remains a ratings hit for FX. Per Nielsen, the current season is the fourth most-watched of the network’s show among the 18 to 49 demographic key to advertisers, and the fifth most-watched in total viewers behind Fargo, American Horror Story, American Crime Story and Snowfall.

All four of the shows above it have already been renewed for another season, as has What We Do in the Shadows, which Mayans MC consistently beats in the ratings.

Of course, TV ratings are not the only thing FX is interested in. Shows’ popularity on Hulu (which does not reveal its ratings) will also be factored in, as will its popularity overseas.

In 2021, Deadline asked Mayans MC showrunner Elgin James whether the show could match the seven-season run of its sister show. He said: “Definitely, and that’s sort of how we have it planned out, just because that’s the model we knew. Then, who knows? Shows usually don’t run seven seasons any more, so it may just be one season.”

On The Playlist podcast, Angel Reyes actor Clayton Cardenas also hinted that the full story of the series has already been planned out. He said: “I think as storytellers, specifically with ‘Mayans,’ we know where this ends… I think we know where this ending is, and we know the perfect time to end is when the audience wants more.”

The Mayans MC season finale airs Tuesday, June 14 at 10 p.m. ET. Seasons 1 to 4 are streaming on Hulu.
