Now, however, the release date for Lucifer Season 5B has been announced. The show will release eight more episodes on Friday, May 28, nine months after the last set of episodes. May 28 looks set to be a busy day for the streamer, as it is also when the third and final season of cult comedy The Kominsky Method is set to drop on Netflix.

Lucifer’s release date was revealed on the official Netflix Twitter page, alongside a photo of Chloe Decker and Lucifer sharing an embrace. The tweet read, “Here to share some exciting news that you definitely did not already know: Season 5B of Lucifer premieres May 28!”

So far, an official trailer for Lucifer Season 5B has not been released. However, the show’s cast and crew have been dropping hints about what would happen in those eight episodes for months.

Amenadiel actor D.B. Woodside, for example, told TV Line, “When God comes, a lot of chaos is going to follow. We pick up literally two seconds from where we ended, and Amenadiel is absolutely humiliated that God saw him behaving the way that he was with his brothers because as the oldest, he’s really supposed to be the one that sets the example—and he was not doing that!”

In a CBR interview, co-showrunner Joe Henderson added, “The trick was if we’re gonna bring God down, how do we maintain the godliness? How do we make sure that he can start answering things without just volunteering everything? A lot of that is the arc of Season 5B. God’s here, but well, is he just more mysterious than ever? Or can I start actually getting the answers that I’ve wanted? That’s a big part of the story we wanted to tell.”

The second set of Season 5 episodes will also include a musical episode for the show, “Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam.” At DC Fandome, Henderson said of this episode, “to me, in these musical episodes you’ve got to have the story-based reason that everyone breaks into song.

“Our show has people breaking into song all the time, but it’s because they’re at Lux or reasons like that. So, one of the challenges was, ‘What element could we introduce that is organic to our story that allows all of our cast to burst into song?’ And when we found that… that’s when it came together.”

The episode will also see 1980s pop star, “Foolish Beat” singer and possible Masked Singer seashell Debbie Gibson join the cast.

These eight episodes will also set up the last ever season of the show, filming on which began in October 2020. Filming concluded in March 2021, as confirmed by Mazikeen actor Lesley-Ann Brandt, who paid tribute to her time on the show on Twitter.

Lucifer Season 5B is released on Netflix in May 2021; Seasons 1 to 5A are streaming now on Netflix.
